Michelle Hird Joins Studiowide

Saturday, January 21st, 2012

It’s been a great start to 2012.

Our feeling for this year is that although it will remain ‘tough out there’, there are telling signs that budgets within a variety of private sector industries are now being released for product and marketing projects.

Our current clients have already committed to some very interesting campaigns this year – which we are now involved with. Additionally, we continue to attract new clients through a mixture of our own outbound marketing activities and increasingly, through referrals.

As a result of our steady growth we are extremely pleased to announce that Michelle Hird has recently joined the Studiowide team as a Graphic Design Creative.

Michelle is an Artist, Illustrator and Graphic Designer from Merseyside. She graduated from Liverpool John Moores University in 2008 with a BA Honors in Multimedia Arts.

When leaving university Michelle went straight into her first job as a Web Designer for TheHut.com based in Northwich. During her time at TheHut.com her work had been featured in The Times Newspaper, The Metro Newspaper, Inside Soap Magazine, the London Underground, The FX Channel, Burnley Football Stadium and her Jinxsy Bunny character has been spread on billboards across the UK.

After a few years working in the creative industry Michelle embarked upon an inspirational quest to Las Vegas, Nevada. On her return she landed a job as a Graphic Designer in Leyland, Preston working for Bee.com. She worked to maintain the Bee.com online store whilst also creating the Bee.com entertainment stores in Manchester, Bury, Blackburn and Birkenhead.

Inspiration

“I get inspiration from books I read, the music I listen to, the media I watch, the environment I find myself in and the people I’m with.”

Travel

“I love to travel and explore new places and cultures. My dream is to one day visit Tokyo and Japan with a big suitcase to pack full of their manga and anime cartoon comics!”

Relaxing

“During my free time I read, draw, go out with friends and watch movies with my sisters.”

Pet Hates

“I would describe myself as quite an easy going person, however I do get slightly annoyed with being stuck in traffic and when people talk to me through a good movie. Other pet hates would have to be people who don’t actively listen when I’m talking and people starting arguments for the sake of it – what’s that all about!”

Philosophy

“Be braver than you thought – you are braver than you think!”

Danny Piercy joins Studiowide

Wednesday, September 7th, 2011

We’re pleased to announce that Danny Piercy has joined Studiowide as an Interactive Media Creative. Danny who recently graduated from John Moores University has spent the last 5 years immersed in all things multimedia related!

After finishing High School Danny went on to Study Multimedia at Hugh Baird College and bagged himself a Distinction in a BTEC National Diploma: Multimedia.

Following his 2 year BTEC course he then went onto Liverpool John Moores University to study ‘Interactive Media’. During the first year of University he got his first DSLR and really started to experiment with serious photography and video, it was this that kick-started the whole thing. After which, and now with a keen interest for motion graphics, video production and photography, Danny knew the exact fields that he wanted to pursue as career.

Danny graduated in 2011 with a 2:1 B.A. (Hons) in ‘Interactive Media’.

Inspiration

“The film Life Cycles, for sure. Nothing sums it up more than this quote – ‘This is not a bike movie – it’s a movie about a bike’. You don’t have to be a biker, or even have an interest in biking to appreciate this film. It’s raised the bar for me in so many ways. There’s one scene in particular that stands out for me; it has a rider riding through a forest in Summer, but as he rides past Autumn’s following him, so all the leaves are dropping off the trees and turning a golden orange. Go watch it!”

Music

“Pretty much everything my Dad listened to when I was growing up, so artists like Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and Thin Lizzy. It was through listening to those bands that I discovered more like Jimi Hendrix and BB King; though it’s pretty varied, I don’t mind the occasional bit of dubstep and I listen to a fair bit of ‘stoner rock’.”

Travel

“Canada. Went with my family a few years back and spent the holiday cruising round in an RV checking out different spots and exploring. It was the best holiday ever! It also has the holy grail of mountain biking in Whistler, BC.”

Free time

“I do a lot of downhill mountain biking with a large group of friends. Whenever I try to explain this to people they always imagine me rolling down the grassy green hill in the Windows wallpaper on their computer… they couldn’t be more wrong. Thick rocks, roots, 30ft jumps and steep muddy hills! When I’m not throwing myself down a mountain I try to find time for my 2nd hobby, the guitar. I’ve been playing for the past 7 years or so, though I don’t pick it up as often as I’d like anymore.”

Annoyances

“People on the trains that don’t smell too good, and cough in your face!… people that aren’t in a rush to get somewhere when I am; people that are in a rush to get somewhere when I’m not. Motorists when I’m cycling on the road and cyclists when I’m driving on the road. Other than that I’m pretty easy going!”

Philosophy

“What goes around comes around.”

Kevin Melia joins Studiowide

Wednesday, August 10th, 2011

We are pleased to announce that Kevin Melia has joined our team in a Business Development role. Kevin will form part of a focussed drive to promote Studiowide services to new and small/medium sized businesses in and around Merseyside.

Career

Kevin moves to Studiowide from a previous role of Sales & Marketing Director at Start Agency. The company was responsible for successfully launching European fashion brands into the UK wholesale and retail markets. Start Agency also operated a marketing consultancy service for retail stores and fashion companies. This involved planning strategies and negotiating with the media for accompanying advertising. Kevin's strategic negotiating services have also been called upon as an agent in the music industry where he regularly negotiated tours and contracts for 80s band, A Flock of Seagulls, amongst others.

Born in Liverpool, and after working for the past 20 years in Manchester, London and Denmark, Kevin, in his own words is “delighted to be back home, working in one of the most vibrant, positive, creative and energetic cities in the world”. He lives in the Dockland area of Liverpool with his partner Julie, a counsellor, and is a very proud father of his teenage daughter, Lauren.

Inspiration

“Former Liverpool Football Club Manager, Bill Shankley. He was a genius at motivating people.”

Music

“It’s the music from your teenage years that remains your favourite, and I am definitely from the punk rock years. My first business venture was selling customised shirts outside the youth club at the age of 14, to earn enough money to see matinee performances at Liverpool punk club Eric’s.”

Travel

“I love New York. It reminds me of Liverpool in its attitude.”

Relax

“At the weekend I take my 15 year old daughter to piano lessons, we’ve done this every weekend since she was 6 years old. I know I’m surreptitiously claiming credit for her talent, but I love it.

Bugbear

“I’m quite tolerant of most things. If somebody is rude or inefficient, or something doesn’t work, then there is usually a reason for it, and it/they can be changed. However, I simply cannot abide chewing gum that is spat onto the pavements. Chewing gum companies should be made to foot the bill for cleaning up this unsightly, anti-social eyesore.

Philosophy

“There is no way to happiness, Happiness is the way”

Web development for civil engineers

Monday, March 28th, 2011

We have begun work this week on a web design and web development contract for an electrical engineering, building and civil engineering company based in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire.

The client already has a basic HTML brochure style website but felt that the site looked tired and needed revamping. One minor issue with the previous site was the lack of upkeep that had gone on (or not gone on, as the case may be). We addressed this by offering a bespoke content management system (CMS). This would allow the customer to update their own content as easy as completing a word document and clicking save.

The content management system immediately appealed to our client as a cost saving advantage. The system does not require further on-going maintenance from our side and the upkeep charges are contained in-house with the client.

Other advantages of having a CMS website is the fact that the site will be dynamic rather than static HTML. This will also help in the future should our client have a need to feed any information such as news and updates, from the website, into social media sites like Facebook or LinkedIn.

Our web development team can design and build totally bespoke content managed websites, and if required can also provide a straight conversion of a static website over to a dynamic content managed system -  for less than one might think.

Our project deadline is 4 weeks so we’ll post some images of the site once it’s finished – we’ll also be uploading to our portfolio as usual.
